The heat service company Best Green A/S and Horsens Kommune have signed an agreement to deliver energy friendly heating of seven schools and two health care centres. Best Green will establish electricity driven heat pumps for the nine locations. In addition to delivering heat to municipal building the heat pumps will also be incorporated into the research and development project EcoGrid 2.0 on Bornholm.
- The heat pumps that we install will be surveyed from Horsens. The installations are being prepared to react to low prices and flexibility markets that can emerge with the TSOs. The heat pumps are therefore ready for the smart grid without big investments, says CEO Simon Bak Kristensen from the Insero-owned Best Green A/S.
With the deal Best Green will buy and own the heat pumps that are being connected to the institutions. The municipality pays for the ’proximate heating’ in the same way that they would have paid for district heating plus a service subscription. Best Green is registered as the owner of the heat pumps and are responsible for operation and maintenance. - including the buying of power and certificates as proof of windmill-generated energy.
Best Green pools heat pumps and through the years it will - that is the ambition anyway - build up a volume that is attractive to TSOs, BRPs or other players in the field.
Best Green is a young company that offers proximate heating to private customers, companies and municipalities. So far, Best Green delivers heating to the equivalent of 200 households. According to Simon Bak Kristensen, succes is to get experiences with flexibility on bigger units such as schools and health care centres where the buildings can act as energy deposits.
Best Green can in relation to EcoGrid 2.0 have the opportunity to use, survery and steer (but not own) several hundred small heat pumps in homes on Bornholm. EcoGrid 2.0 is a research and development project with many researchers involved on theoretical work but Best Green's participation as aggregator gives the project a business angle.
- We are a 100 percent commercial player so we give the project an extra leg. It is now that we move from R&D to business and that is what makes EcoGrid 2.0 so exciting, says Simon Bak Kristensen form Best Green, who is betting on a long-term business from the experiences from EcoGrid 2.0.
Mayor Peter Sørensen (Social Democrats) from Horsens Kommune sees the deal with Best Green as an important tool in the green conversion.
- With the proximate heating solution from Best Green we are significantly reducing the municipality's CO2 emission. Also, we are ensuring a reasonable, easy and cheaper operation on a number of the municipality's heating plants, says Peter Sørensen in a press release, where it is indicated that the municipality within a year has saved heating expenses of half a million kroner.
Industry spokesperson Helle Juhler Verdoner from Branchefællesskab for Intelligent Energi (iEnergi) welcomes Best Green's succes:
- This is a good example of how a smaller and entrepreneurial member of our group can create a sustainable business model that disseminates the use of heat pumps - and so supports the green conversion - and paves the way for flexible consumption in heating, says Helle Juhler Verdoner.
Best Green's proximate heating solution is meant for buildings and areas - including so-called oil villages - with no access to district heating.
